Guide to the Louvre Museum in Paris

The museum Louvre (French: Musée du Louvre), is located in Paris and is one of the most famous art museums and visited the world.
is located on the right bank of the Seine, in the first arrondissement.
The museum contains over 380,000 works of art, of which about 35,000 are permanently exposed over an area of \u200b\u200b60,600 square meters.
The museum is housed in the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) which was originally a fortress built in the twelfth century under the reign of Philip II. The building was extended several times to form the present palace of the Louvre. In 1674, Louis XIV chose the Palace Versailles as a home for his family, leaving the Louvre for display in the collection real. During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre would become a museum to exhibit the masterpieces of the nation.
The museum opened August 10, 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings, most were seized or confiscated property to the church's real property. Because of the structural problems of the building, the museum was closed from 1796 to 1801. The collection increased under Napoleon, and the museum was called the Musée Napoléon. After his defeat at Waterloo, many goods were returned to their original owners. The collection was enlarged during the reigns of Louis XVIII and Charles X, was further developed through donations and gifts from the Third Republic, except during the two world wars.
As of 2008, the collection is divided into eight sections:
  • Middle Eastern Antiquities Egyptian Antiquities
  • Antiquities Greek, Etruscan and Roman Art Islamic
  • Sculpture Painting Decorative Arts
  • Prints and drawings .
Among the most important and most admired paintings in the museum you can find the "Mona Lisa" Mona Lisa or Leonardo da Vinci.
